Review: ChocGoji

Sponsored Review

This Mid-Autumn Festival, forget the high-calorie, high-sugar mooncakes and indulge in this healthy snack instead!

There’s a new snack on the block!

Goji berries, also known as wolfberries, is the daddy of all antioxidants. They have a level of antioxidants, essential amino acids and vitamins A and C that is so high that their nutritional benefits outshine that of fruits such as oranges, cranberries and carrots.

Foods that are high in antioxidants will be able to protect cells and their components from oxidative damage and this will in turn extend life, and improve our memory. As such, my grandma and mom are advocates of Goji berries and will never fail to add them to my soups and herbal teas. They even serve them to guests as snacks at times! Well, this is also because we Chinese believe that the Goji berries are beneficial to our eyes, liver and kidney.

However, eating Goji berries alone can be a little unpleasant. Despite its sweet undertones, Goji berries are largely bitter so I was glad to learn that the folks at ChocGoji decided to cover the dried Goji berry in chocolate to increase their visual and taste appeal, as well as the overall anti-oxidant levels in the product. Brilliant!

Besides a large composition of macronutrients, Goji berries also contain Cyperone, a compound that benefits the heart, controls blood pressure, alleviates menstrual discomfort and prevents cervical cancer. So ladies, you have to try this!

Elfaine from The Sample Store had generously gifted me three packets of ChocGoji that comes in different chocolate coatings – milk chocolate, dark chocolate and sugar-free chocolate.

From left to right: Milk Chocolate, Sugar Free Chocolate and dark Chocolate

I’ve finished all three packets (:P) and here’s what I think of them.

The chocolate goes really well with the Goji berries!

Chocgoji had a great balance with tasty wolfberries and aromatic chocolate working together. I love all three coats of chocolate but the most palatable flavor will have to be the sugar-free rendition. I thought it has the right mix of bitterness and sweetness. It was like playing Goldilocks where the milk chocolate was too sweet and the dark chocolate was too bitter and the sugar-free was just right.

But don’t get me wrong. The other two flavors were pretty good too but since I’m no fan of sweet snacks, the sugar-free one naturally reigns supreme over the others as it was less sweet.

The milk chocolate flavor was sweet with a hint of vanilla’s creamy taste. So if you have a sweet tooth, you’ll probably fall in love with this one.

The dark chocolate flavor has a pretty intense bitter taste. Since the melting point is lower due to its small size, the bitter taste disappears within seconds as it melts on the tongue like a tiny ice cube.

I also like the generous coat of chocolate on each berry. I’ve sliced the chocolate in half to show you the thickness of the chocolate.

Overall, I think this is a delicious and healthy snack that is suited for all occasions. A big thumbs up for this great invention.

4.5 Honeyz crowns!

ChocGoji brings together the best of both worlds, a snack that is tasty and nutritious at the same time. Everyone in my family is loving it!
