Beauty Review: Mentholatum Organic Lipbalm

Sponsored Review

Indulge in the pure goodness of nature with Mentholatum’s latest product – Organic Lipbalm.

Trust me, even organic cynics are gonna say YAY!

I’ve hitherto always used beauty products from mainstream brands. I believe it’s the same for you ladies.

BUT!

Have you ever read the labels? Do you realize these products may contain toxic chemicals that may be carcinogenic?

Many products (even those from top name brands) contain harmful chemicals such as thimerosal (mercury), parabens, petrochemicals, phthalates, synthetic colors, synthetic perfumes, diaszolidinyl urea, imidazolidinyl urea, diethanolamine (DEA), and triethanolamine (TEA) which may potentially be absorbed by the body through our skin.

Research has shown that these chemicals may be linked to cancer, allergies, dermatological issues, organ failure, birth defects and many more health problems.

This has made me rethink my beauty choices and consider going organic.

And I’m going to start with lip products (i.e. lip balm, lipstick, lip gloss, etc.)

Why?

Because most mainstream lip products contain toxins and since our lips are more porous than the skin on our bodies, we put ourselves in grave danger when we apply them on our lips.

To top it off, we often unintentionally ingest these toxic lip products.

*Takes deep breath*

So now you know, organic and natural products are the way to go!

I was delirious with joy when Mentholatum (the brandnomer for lip balms) sent me their latest Organic Lip Balm as I was about to turn into an organic cynic.

Another vanilla product from Mentholatum’s lip balm series?

Nope, this time they are serious about kicking it up a notch with their Organic Lipbalm range that is made from natural ingredients sourced from internationally renowned organic farms.

The key ingredients are,

  1. African Organic Shea Butter (Soothes and heals dry lips)

  2. Spanish Organic Oil (Fights aging and prevents chapped lips)

  3. Argentinean Organic Jojoba Oil (Provides long-lasting hydration)

  4. Columbian Organic Coconut Oil (Softens skin for silky smooth lips)

According to Mentholatum, this new organic range has received the highest eco-cert accreditation, in that, it is:

  1. free from artificial chemicals, colorants and preservatives,

  2. healthy, safe and gentle enough for sensitive lips and

  3. recyclable and biodegradable.

Whee! I don’t have to wreak havoc in my kitchen by making my own natural lip balm now.

Chucking organic talk aside, can these organic lip balms still measure up to their non-organic counterparts?

Here’s what I think…

The organic lip balm provided quick relief from my dry and chapped lips. My lips felt hydrated immediately after application. The lip balm also left a healthy sheen on my lips making them look luscious, silky and velvety smooth.

I was rather amazed that the lip balm stayed on even after 30 minutes! My lips looked like they were shining with gloss and they felt pretty moisturized. Most lip balms will dry out shortly after application and require me to reapply constantly. I heard this could also be an allergic reaction to the balm. *jeers*

The texture of the product also felt soft and incredibly smooth on lips, especially the Raspberry and Strawberry flavor.

It goes on soft and smooth and exudes a sweet smelling aroma that lasts for several minutes.

Compared to Raspberry and Strawberry, the Lavender and Orange flavor lip balm has a rougher texture. But that does not bother me as it oozes a subtle lavender scent that is very relaxing and soothing when inhaled.

Lavender is always well known for its calming and healing attributes so this flavor really wins me over.

To be honest, I did get a surge of scepticism when I first learned of the Organic lip balm. I was not confident that this organic baby can produce the same results as ordinary lip balm.

Well, it did and even exceeded my expectations and stood up to all the regular lip balms. I also wore the lip balm under my lip stick and the color stayed on longer than usual and feathering was reduced.

The only downer is that the lip balms do not contain SPF. Well, if that bothers you, try dabbing some lip gloss with SPF on top of the lip balm.

In all, the Mentholatum Organic Lip Balm is great for our health, planet and our pockets. It retails at Watsons, Guardian, Supermarkets and Departmental stores at SGD7.90 each.
