This year, the travel junkie in me has definitely taken a turn down the path less travelled.
In place of the usual city retreats, I’ve been getting back in touch with my love for Mother Nature. It has been a literal breath of fresh air exploring the famous British Peak District, snorkeling in the crystal clear waters of the Maldives and getting up close and personal with the breathtaking underwater world at Singapore’s very own Equarius Hotel.
Nothing helps you unwind after a long stressful day quite the way Mother Nature does. Her soothing colours, sights and sounds can wash away any worries.
It’s no wonder so many resorts, retreats and villas share this naturalistic theme. So it was only ‘natural’ that we too started to look at these designs for inspiration in planning and designing our own home, in an attempt to make our home our very own city retreat.
But the high end wallpapers used by a lot of luxury resorts can be a real challenge to both put up and maintain, if you don’t have a luxury resort-sized budget.
All it takes is one dog eared corner of wallpaper peeling and rolling up after a few years, and your classy inner city retreat will immediately appear aged and tired.
Talking of dog-eared, our favourite shaggy dog at Dulux has obviously been listening to our new-home-owner woes.
Voila Dulux’s Ambiance range, promising all the glamour of chic wallpaper without any of the drawbacks.

I’m sure most of you probably don’t think of painting your walls as a way of making your living space more exciting. The mental image of white washed walls, slowly turning yellow over time isn’t an appealing one.
Well, Dulux is onto a game changer. Soon people will be saying as exciting as watching paint dry instead of as boring as watching paint dry, I kid you not!
Through a few smart brush strokes, Dulux’s new Ambiance range is literally special effects for your walls.
My interest was first piqued when I heard that Nadya Hutagalung had in fact collaborated with Dulux to come out with her very own range of Dulux Ambiance special effects paints and colours.
She crafted her own unique, natural and stylish blends directly in collaboration with Dulux’s artisans.
I’ve been a fan of Nadya’s for quite some time. Whether she’s presenting on MTV Asia, hosting Asia’s Next Top Model or carrying out her Eco-warrior duties, she knows what looks good.
I knew if she was involved, then there must be something special about this range and once I got to see it in real life I saw why.
I was literally taken aback by how good this paint looks, it really mimics high end wallpaper offering shiny metallic finishes, a luxuriously smooth to touch velvet finish, a linen finish which really looks like you could make yourself a pair of jeans with it, and last but not least, my favourite, a sublime marble finish.
All finishes come in a host of colours to perfectly suit your dream home and the unique nature of paint means that no two walls will ever look identical. Gone is the risk of walking into your friends’ home to discover that they have the same feature wall as you.
All it takes is a base top coat (using the Dulux Ambiance All range) and then a few applications of Dulux’s magical Ambiance paint, and your room is literally reinvigorated. It is simple enough to do yourself, yet complex enough to be transformed into unique patterns when applied by Dulux Ambiance certified painters.
‘Virtually no paint smell’, washable, mold and fungus resistant, environmentally friendly, you name it, this paint does it.
Dulux has really turned the tables on the home renovation market. Suddenly painting your walls sounds exciting, fresh and timeless. You can use paint to uniquely express yourself and customize your home in ways that would never have been possible with wallpapers.
